So whenever you approach a group of people to share an idea, sell a product, or get a vote, the best you can hope for is that 66% of people will not shut the door, hang up the phone, or curse you out. Of all of the people that you could possibly reach, if only 1/3 are saying no then you are doing something right. It’s what I like to call the 2/3 rules. In any given poll, target market, or just group of people: 1/3 of the people will love what you have to say 1/3 will hate what you have to say and 1/3 of simply not care at all. The ones that don’t care are what you call the swing vote in politics. Either way, whenever you are trying to reach an audience for anything, you should know that the best you can generally do is 2/3. And hey, that’s not bad, it’s enough to win the election, or break a filibuster. So if you are out there pounding the pavement trying to sell a product, service or just an idea, don’t sweat it. You should know you’re not going to reach everyone. If you are lucky enough to only royally piss off 1 out of every 3 people you meet, then you are doing something right. Good night and good luck.
