Keith Olberman got fired twice from MSNBC. Once to make the lead story in the New York Times, and once because he was actually fired by them. Kim Kardashian faked a marriage. Shocker right? Like we really thought she’d go for a white guy. A couple of kids in Maryl shot the Blair Witch Project and convinced us all it was a documentary. They were probably the first kids with a camcorder to go viral.
Hoaxes are successful in the short run disastrous in the long run. Keith Olberman was fired the first time for bias journalism practices; although anyone who does a show on political commentary is, by practice, biased. Kim Kardshian did all the talk shows in America, the Middle East, morning and late night as the blushing bride, happy to find love. You’ve got to give the girl credit. It wasn’t until many more months, more than the marriage even lasted, before she really started to lose advertising power. The Blair Witch Project made millions at the box office. My guess is that if any one of them had brains at all, they took the money and quietly disappeared into the lime light that captivates us all.
The point is, no one likes being lied to. If the American people already love you, you don’t need to drum up extra fame and publicity. What you have is enough. Be happy with it. You don’t need to lie to make yourself more appealing. It doesn’t work on first dates and it doesn’t work now. To the kids from Maryl : your Hoax was probably the most profitable, with the least amount of consequences.
