So I got home from work today and my husband told me about his day. He went into a Circle K he frequents the store clerk informed of the latest gossip. Their store was robbed of approximately $1,000 in merch ise last night. Two beer runs and a cigarette run. As it turns out, most of these people didn’t even have a gun. People come in they take what they want and the clerks are advised to stand by for fear of a lawsuit. It baffles me how an unarmed man or woman can jump over the counter and seemingly take anything they want without much recourse. Most of the time some paper work is filed and the police won’t even take a description of the perpetrator. This is what’s wrong with corporate America. We advise people to stand by and watch injustice for fear of being sued.
Obviously you shouldn’t confront a man with a gun. But I’ll tell about another culture who isn’t even afraid to do that. As some of you may know I’m half Chinese. My father once told me a story about a distant relative of ours. They ran a business and lived above it like many Chinese immigrants do. A man came in one night with a gun to rob them. The man’s son went down stairs to confront the intruder. They were wrestling over the gun when the father came out. He struck the intruder with a cleaver several times in the back. The intruder fled the scene and the police followed the blood. The moral of the story is: when it’s your property, you care more. Individuals have a luxury corporations don’t. They don’t have to pay workman’s compensation, or lawsuits reliant on vicarious liability.
