Everyone has a story to tell. Whether you know it or not you are part of a story. There is an idea in philosophy called Tabula Rasa. The concept says man is essentially a blank slate. This boastful man said, “Give me seven children and let me raise them. One will be a doctor, one will be a lawyer, one will be a thief, and so on down the list.” This is where the idea the big debate of nature versus nurture comes from. Are people born inclined a certain way or are people raised to be who they are? For you theologians out there this is the difference in predestination and free will. Obliviously the world isn’t just black and white. There is gray yes, but there is also blue and purple and a lot of colors out there. So I ask you. Who is writing your story?
First you have to admit you have a story to ever hope to have any control over it. You have to believe that you are here for a reason. If you never think your story matters then chance will write your story. Your position in this world in which you were born will determine who you are. If dad was a lawyer you will be a lawyer. If dad was a thief you’ll be a thief. But, we were designed for the sole intent to have free will, and a choice. We are all out there in our own walks of life making choices every day.
Some people out there will say I am certainly writing my own story. This is good in the sense that you will always be better than chance. You are a better writer than just letting whatever comes your way good or bad be part of your story. There is only one problem with you writing your story. People chase desire. Now desire is good and all it’s the best motivator out there. But, with desire comes man ultimate flaw. We are imperfect. On any given day I would rather have dinner with my husband then not speak to him all day while we chases things I could give up. Now we can’t say to God, come down here and take care of me all my days while I stay here on the couch; that wouldn’t be much of a story anyways.
There is one other author out there. His name is Jesus Christ. He has a gr story out there. It’s a story about his people. It’s a story about love. There are good times and bad times. Like any good story there is suspense and intrigue. Sometimes bad things that happen are just part of the story. I’ll tell you a secret it’s through tragedy we see humanity. I promise you he can write a story for you that would put, JK Rowling, Stephanie Myer, Jane Austin, and even William Shakespeare himself to shame. You know why? Because it’s your story and it’s my story. It’s our story and it’s his story and its history. Art imitates life and sometimes life imitates art. So I’ll say hi to all of you out in cyberspace. I’ll also ask you before you go, who is writing your story?
