Don’t get too excited. Even though we all think congress is a bunch of bad mother… (shut your mouth!), that is not what this post is about. Even though the government has been shut down for 9 days now this post is about the other “m” word…. Moderate. Everyone on the right is now afraid to be called a moderate. On the left a moderate is basically anyone who cares about equality, minorities, and the environment without taking money from some eco-terrorist organization or any member of the American socialist party. Yet because of mounting pressure posed by teapartyists (TradeMark Pending), the word “moderate” has become a bad word for “republican”. A party that immortalizes the Ragan years has turned into a debacle of extremist conservatives. I was under the impression that conservative meant something entirely different than it’s stood for in recent days. It’s not good to shut down the government on the platform of defunding the Affordable Care Act. There is not a single conservative thing I’ve seen by the conservative party lately. Lately, they’ve been in the news for everything from a debate about legitimate rape, homosexual reform programs, and stopping a law that was upheld by the supreme-court. My mother is a republican. She cares about education, having a strong military and a balanced budget. But the people being elected don’t seem to share those values. At least Arizona is holding strong in the senate by keeping the tea party out of our affairs. Though I do wish Carmona would have beat Flake. That is now neither here nor there. It’s pretty sad when republicans won’t admit to being moderates in fear of losing to a more extreme conservative even though there really isn’t anything conservative about that.
