Sometimes it feels like republicans and democrats couldn’t be more different. If you ask them about popular stories they debate over the facts. The problem is with the news networks. It seems ridiculous that we would argue over facts. You would think that facts would be indisputable but these days everyone is looking to make a profit, even the news networks. If you look at any popular story the networks present it in a way that appeals to their demographic. Take the story about Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty. The Fox News Headline read “Robertson takes biblical stand against homosexual lifestyle.” The CNN headline read “Robertson compares homosexuality to bestiality.” I have not read the actual interview with GQ so who knows what was actually said.
Take the Benghazi Sc al. The New York Times conducted an independent investigation that concluded Al Qaeda was not involved and the attack was spontaneous. Fox News responded by challenging the story. They accused the New York Times of deliberately trying to white wash the sc al to help Hillary Clinton’s political image.
Last year there was a government shutdown. Government employees stopped getting paychecks, state parks were closed, and in my home state Arizona, travelers had to change plans when the Gr Canyon was temporarily closed. If you ask Democrats they blamed Republicans. Republicans blamed both parties.
The parties even disagree about Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert. There was an actual research study done which concluded “Republicans view Stephen Colbert as a comedian that still furthers the republican agenda.” “Democrats view Stephen Colbert as a secret democrat that produces a satire based on criticizing republicans.” It’s pretty sad that we can’t even agree about Stephen Colbert of all things.
If you want to underst why the tensions are so high between Democrats and Republicans from K street, to main street all you have to do is change the channel once in a while. We are living in a world where news is no longer journalism it’s commentary, and the commentators can’t agree on facts. My father once told me if you can control what people hear, what they see and what they know then pretty soon you can control how people think.
